Darrell Hair is not around anymore to save England

2010 August 21

This is a bizarre act of nature or history or whatever you would like to say it according to your own cake and pie that:

Exactly four years ago after tea in Oval test between Pakistan and England at 20th August, 2006, Pakistan denied to take field after being accused of ball tamparing by on field umpires Darrell Hair and Billy Doctrove. They awarded 5 runs to Engalnd and changed the ball after Umar Gul dismissed Cook with a nasty reverse swing.

Now after four years, same day same venue same teams and little bit of same situation. England was in spot of bother that time and is once again are. Today Pakistan bowlers did that was feared and denied that day, they managed to steel the grip of the match from England looking in control just before tea. This time it was not Gul it was Mohammad Amir, who did swing it and swing it late and caused a spectacular England collapse. But this time around there was no Darrell Hair who can decide in minutes without any proof that there was some ball tampering happened, so there was no drama.

This is still insane people don’t accept the fact that reverse swing is also a skill which could be also be achieved naturally without doing anything wrong and there are lot of people doing it these days. But it is a very difficult skill and it very much dependent on lot of factors including bowler ability to environment plus state of the ball.

Anyways, once again thank God there was no Darrel Hair to destroy the face of cricket and give it jolt in trying times and I hope this match as well as this tour will go along as nicely as it has been so far.

    Mudassar,
The only reason they accepted it was a skill is because they began to, and were able to, do it themselves. In the Ashes series in England when Simon Jones began reversing it, it was only then they accepted. Had this not happened, they would still be viewing it as cheating right now. It’s only because they learnt it, they’re ok with it now. But of course, they’ll never be as good as the inventors.

@Stani, But they still are pretty suspicious about it, aren’t they?

Two things still are very starnge for them, 1- How the hell Pakistan is able to produce such fine fats bowler out of no where and not bowler friendly conditions. 2 – And how the hell every other bowler coming from Pakistan is able to reverse swing like charm :P

@Lousia, I know where are you coming from. I just wish this time around at least they do a proper investigation and than make it it public as it is.

Once investigation is done than I also hope take proper action against those who are involved and clear those who are innocent and those should not only be players it should include the management, the bookie and the responsible ICC members who were suppose to keep an eye on it. I also hope investigation make it clear if there is any conspiracy theory or false allegation going on to save Cricket Future as well as Pakistan Cricket.

Inside Pakistan we are shouting continuously from a long time that this management should be sacked as soon as possible. I hope this will finally cause a change.
