IPL, Pakistani players and Mr Modi's ego wagging along

2010 January 20

None of Pakistani player attracted a single bid at IPL-3 auction, wow incredible? But what were they doing in the final Auction list then?

Greater power brings greater responsibility! BCCI and IPL now giants of cricket economics they should handle this in a better way and give respect to other nations and players, I agree franchises should not risk their money on a fragile relations between two countries but if a every dumb in the world knows both country have problems and are not ready to welcome each other players than why IPL or their Govt. don’t have balls to say it loud.

All this should have been stoped at the moment it started couple of months ago and it should have been made clear that Indian Govt. will not be able to welcome and allow visas, so no Pakistani in IPL. But instead our genius dumb Mr. Modi and his friends started double standard games by putting pressure on Pakistan authorities and players to get NOCs, clearance and deadlines even they know at that time they will not be able to play Pakistani player in IPL’s third edition. They were acting like they are having goose bumps for getting Pakistani players in their golden babe IPL.

It is perfectly acceptable to anyone that inviting Pakistani player in India may create some problems for IPL as tension between two nations  isn’t eased off yet and due to some conspiracy theories and some action people of both countries think of each other trying to kill them and stuff. Although there isn’t a single evidence of any hate or harsh action by cricket fans of both countries against players except some candid Ball Thakray’s pitch invasion. Mr.  Modi had a perfect excuse specially after Mumabi attacks so why don’t use it why playing games with a cricket loving nation and their players. Don’t Mr. Genius have the guts to say it at face the moment they asked him to let them in?

IPL ended up humiliating and disrespecting an entire nation of billions of cricket loving people who love the game and love to see any possibility of their players competing with rest of the world. I am not much disappointed as no Pakistani player is in IPL as they deserve it somewhat by not giving first priority to their real job but I am really very disappointed the way this has been handled. Now dear Modi can have 101 reasons to justify it but reality is same the situation is no different than what it was couple of months ago, whatever reason they give now was true couple of months ago too so they could have simply finish this business by simply denying it at that time. You can’t fool everyone, isn’t it obvious every franchise had their home done and that home work doesn’t include any Pakistani player in their plans. This is just not a selection committee it is a damn business with lot of money involved so they must had asked Indain Govt. and IPL authorities about the status of Pakistani players which was a simple No, but if that No was made public some months ago all this could have been avoided.

As far as Pakistani players are concerned I somehow feel it is better they stay away from IPL even though they are very excited about it after all how don’t want some easy earned bucks. But they should concentrate on making up for their national fans and team who they are continuously disappointing one way or other.

All of those who think by these act of hypocrisy one can marginalize Pakistan cricket, they need to wake up. It’s a nations only big sport and they love it. It is in a hole right now due to some good for nothing administrators and politics involved but it will rise and will rise soon. It is just a matter of time and right persons.

And Finally:

Happy new IPL 3 dear MODI you did it again, you earned enough TRP and media space even months before the start of IPL you really are a genius hats off to you Sir.

This is not about Modi alone, the people of India are not going to lose sleep over the issue.

Pakistan based terrorism is not only about the terrorists. It is also about the state supporting these terrorists. The masterminds of the Mumbai killing are roaming free in Pakistan.

The arguments that politics and sports should not be mixed and that if the Pakistani cricketers are not allowed to play in India, terrorists will be the winners, simply does not hold water because the Pakistani state is firmly behind these terrorists.

The memories of Mumbai killing are still fresh in the minds of Indian people. IPI participants can not be so insensitive to have forgotten it so soon !

In order to come clean, Pakistan must punish the Mumbai killers. Everything else, including Cricket will follow later.

    Excellent post.
We need to rethink on the rapid changes coming around us, we must reorganize our cricket as its very clear now that India while gaining financial strength through cricket popularity is all bent upon destroying our cricket.
BCCI clearly and cleverly keeps pressurising ICC to get things done its favour from a hungrey-pauper which runs its budget on financial aid from rich BCCI.
Regarding Cricket as a game, its equaly popular in Pakistan and so is its latest version T20,played all around in Galis,Mohallas, villages since ages in our country. And we are the best in the world in this version of the game
But the biggest problem with us is Cricket Management. Todays PCB is a bunch of clowns, who dont know the a,b,c of cricket management as otherwise Pakistan can eassily put up an IPL show on its own.
About managing cricket affairs for all other versions Test Cricket and ODI, clowns act the same way

You seem really upset for someone who thinks it’s better for the Pakistani players to stay away from the IPL :)

Must say this was as practical a point of view as one could get from Pakistan as a lot of people are upset about the snub. Gotta agree with you on it, minus the snide remarks about Lalit Modi.

Last but not least, Pakistan’s population is not even close to a billion. Millions would have been more apt.

If PCB submitted the NOC after seeking clearance from the government and IPL supposedly sought guidance and clearance from Indian government then there really should not have been an issue regarding the availability of the players.

They just dont want to announce their policy publicly in Champions league they said it was too late, then they made the visa and Noc’s an issue and now after all this they didn’t considered even a single player.
    These are childish mind games.
Pakistan should slap India with reciprocal sanctions.
Ban their movies in Pakistan, Ban IPL in Pakistan stop importing stuff from them as our balance of trade is hugely in favor of India.

Sir, you need to read the post first, main point of the post are:

    - India/IPL/BCCI reserve the rights to allow visas or entrance to anyone or not. And IPL being a property of BCCI and India also reserve the right to weather it wants specific players in it or not. But this is not a quick variable policy, it is a hard stable decision which was same at the time Pakistanis were trying to get NOCs and clearance from their own Govt. IPL should have made clear that on the basis of security they will not be able to welcome Pakistani players case closed.

    - Why the hell they pretend in front of whole world that they are trying their best to involve Pakistani players in IPL and if their is some problem it is with PCB and Pakistan Govt. In fact there plan was clear from day 1 that they will not allow Pakistani players. What will u call it then?

    - Pakistani players should be in auction list at all and IPL shouldn’t have asked them to present their documents and NOCs as simple as that. Specially when they don’t want them in.

    - This is not about terrorism and don’t even know about it except a self staged Mumabi, we are going through it every day. But I don’t want to start that discussion here, it is all about the Game and it was purely a strategic decision that should have been made clear much earlier then this last stage.

    - Many of Pakistani don’t mind if their players will not play in IPL like second season but behaving like this is not the way a responsible state/organisation should do it is just plane against all diplomatic ethics.

And many many more points like this.

Cricket is always like this , richer stronger boards like Australia and England and now BCCI has their say in every matter. And you can see after a century it is still in 8 or 10 countries at a respectable quality instead of being spread around half of the world. Cricket need to get out of this financial and adminsitration structure to expand but this not possible as any powerful board don’t want to share it at all.

In this case BCCI/IPL must have some sense of responsibilities and made clear policies instead of playing hide and seek games.

Pakistan currently need to get out of this turmoil before staging anything substantial. PCB also need some visionary leadership not stereotypical clowns.

  10. January 20, 2010

Well I guess IPL is all about bucks, every one is in for bucks from BCCI to MODI to Players. It is a business and business is all about bucks.

  11. January 20, 2010

oh I must be carried away in fact about 1.7 million we are. Thanks for correction :)

I am upset as the way world handle us but we let them do it and as far as we have such pathetic leadership we can’t get integrity that we deserve.

And Mr. Modi should be held responsible as the head of IPL he made policies and he is the one who was every where asking for NOCs and clearance even I bet he was aware of what is going to happen.

  12. January 20, 2010

Yes this is what disturbs are we that dumb anyone out their is playing games with like school boys. This is horrendous diplomacy.

I think this is the knee jerk reaction which is destroying us, you can’t stop a world accepted product by banning it or so. That is not how you compete. You need to compete by producing values in your own products and services, you need to create balance with respectable competition from your side and try to dominate the market. So we need to bring ourself to such a stage where they should start considering us much better then this.

It’s sad that people in Pakistan think the BCCI is armtwisting the ICC into marginalising Pakistan cricket. Let’s just ignore the fact that India toured Pakistan in 2004 and 2006, at a time when the likes of Australia and New Zealand didn’t want to play there. India also played in Pakistan during the Asia Cup in 2008. But most importantly, let’s ignore how the Sri Lankan players were attacked in Pakistani borders. I’m sure the BCCI was behind that attack too, just like the Indian Government perpetrated the Mumbai massacre. Get Real guys!

Have you read about the reaction of the Indian government, what do you think

Indian government distances itself from IPL

  15. January 22, 2010

This is just usual hell a very political statement and best they can say in situation.

But after clearance from Pakistani Govt. and foreign office and all NOCs it was Indian Govt. to make sure they will allow visas and fulfill security concerns and I read that Indian Govt. denied giving any guaranty over Pakistani player availability during IPL.

Hello Mudassar, good rebuttal to Wasim. BTW, aren’t Bollywood & Indian Satellite channels already banned in Pak?

Anyway, among all these ‘Wasim’s & ‘Indian’s its nice to see you keeping to your senses. Hence, I’d like your thoughts on this blogpost by Homer on BCC! (http://www.boredcricketcrazyindians.com/2010/01/alternate-view.html ) There are some points raised by Homer which haven’t been addressed by you. Mahek has already argued over there with Homer.

I, like any other sane cricket fan, would like to form my view only after listening from people like you, Homer & Mahek. I’d check back in two days. Till then, Keep it real :)

Ps. looks like Wasim shares sentiments with Tanvir. Here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuBlHHqfIuY&feature=player_embedded at 4 minutes 20 seconds, Sohail Tanvir says ‘Hinduon ki zehenihat hi aisi hai.’

Welcome Raj, I had said and commented enough on this issue and we need to move on. Whatever happened wasn’t good it shouldn’t have happened and finally IPL and playing in IPL is all about money and even team owners or players will tend towards the tide where their is some profit and these kind of shameful blunders will happen.

I think it was equally humiliating for Indians too as it cause a lot of criticism and bad name for them only due to some people responsible for it.

Regarding that video I should not comment but it is true as I can bet 70% of Indians call Pakistani terrorists and the stuff without any reason same here 60-70% people think like this about Indians or specifically Hindus and this is a bitter truth we have to get along with it. As if there is no major change in policies of both countries and politics it is going to be same no matter how you try.

  18. January 29, 2010

I understand if you are exhausted by now from discussing this.

Looking forward to more balanced posts from you.

Btw, Re: the vid, the implicit point I was trying to make is that Mr. Tanvir, irrespective of his views on Hindus, wouldn’t have any prob accepting money from them.

Nice to find that there are blog owners that care about their blogs and not post all kind of inutile stuff but rather try to sustain it perfect and precious for the sake of their visitors. You’ve done a good job and i thank you for that and as well for not shocking me with unuseable garbage and spam.Thank You
